When my boy was a baby, he struggled with sleep. Well he’s still not great at two and half years old, but he’s no way on that level.
We’d spend hours bouncing him and rocking him, but don’t you dare sit, you have to keep moving around the room. Or you could rock him in the pram, but not just back and forward on the spot, it had to be a proper walk around. My husband and I would take turns walking circuits around the kitchen.
And the fun part was when you spent two hours trying to get him to sleep, for him to sleep ten minutes. I remember scouring forums for any tips and coming across a post that said that their baby had slept for four hours, should they wake them. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one feeling at a loss, when a few people commented about her having a unicorn child.
Kudos to her, but as you can tell, my boy is not a unicorn child and he doesn’t like sleep. I tried so many sleep products that people swore worked for them. Unfortunately my boy was immune. My theory was he’s too wise to it all and he knows what he wants, Mummy’s warmth and cuddles.
Now I’d seen Sea Dreams (this is an affiliate link so if you click it and make a purchase, I’ll earn a commission) many times on social media and I was mesmerised by it. It looked so cute and soothing. I’d been focusing on stuff that I thought were more likely to help; like sheep that sounded like the womb or vibrating devices to mimic rocking.
But at this point, I’d exhausted so many options and when I saw another cute video of it on TikTok, I thought what have I got to lose.
When it came, I was glad to see it was as cute as the videos. Just look at it.
I was impressed by the different features you could choose from, whether your baby would prefer natural sounds or music, or even just the light on.

My favourite was the drift off mode, which played for 25 minutes and slowly got quieter and the lights dimmed.
There’s a low battery indicator, which doesn’t flash right at the last second and you have to panic trying to find batteries. There was a few times I’d seen the indicator and forgot to sort it, but it kept going strong.
There’s also handy two volume button, which any parent will appreciate (don’t get me started on noisy kids toys with no off switch). I wouldn’t say the quieter mode is much quieter, and they are both moderately loud. I don’t know if it’s just they are nice soothing sounds, but it hasn’t actually bothered us too much.
And as an added bonus, it has a remote, so if it ends before they fall asleep, you can turn it on again from the safety of the doorway.
I decided to get it setup in his bedside cot, so that when he was next due a nap, we’d give it a go. It’s battery powered so I didn’t have to worry about wires, but it was rather heavy and I didn’t want it somehow tipping on my boy. Luckily it has a cot attachment that was easy to use. You literally just hook it over the rail and tighten.

When he was starting to get tired, I put him down in his cot and put it in drift off mode. He was mesmerised by it, but he wasn’t completely fooled. He would enjoy it but then realise I’m not holding him and cry for me, but then get mesmerised again.
His new bedside cot I’d bought him was a rocking one. Since he liked being rocked to sleep, I’d bought it (like I said, I tried a fair few products). Now do you remember how I said you couldn’t rock him to sleep in the same spot and I had to walk him around? Well apparently that applied with the crib, so that was another let down.
But it turns out if you rock him while he watches Sea Dreams, he actually goes to sleep. I actually thought the sleep deprivation was getting to me and I was hallucinating. I’m sure I must’ve cackled like the joker.
I think the rocking was enough to settle him, while the Sea Dreams distracted him to sleep.
It was such a relief to have. Because as you can imagine, when you have to walk for hours to get him to sleep, plus the sleep deprivation, it was really fricken tiring. So being able to put him down and rock the cot while I sit on the bed was a dream.
I also found that he enjoyed it not just at nap time. He actually enjoyed just watching it. It meant I could do things while he watched it. It was so nice to get ready every morning without him crying for me and instead being entertained.
He actually still plays with and watches it now at 2 and half years, but it definitely doesn’t get him to sleep.
But Sea Dreams (this is an affiliate link so if you click it and make a purchase, I will get a commission) was such a lifesaver for us when he was a baby. Especially when we tried so many things and felt like we were going out of our minds. The fact it wasn’t just a sleep aid made it so much better.
